  Aim  
 

The aim of the programme is to provide students a professional qualification, which may be used to prepare directly for a career in business, to gain advanced entry to study for further professional qualifications.

The nature of the programme is to provide students with not only appreciation of the theoretical issues involved in the study of business, but with a range of practical skills which will enhance their value to potential employers. The subjects are then developed in an increasingly applied way as the programme proceeds, covering the major functional specialisms of business and culminating in a range of overview subjects, which provide broad strategic and international perspectives on business and management issues.

 
  At the end of the programme, the candidate should be able to:  
 
Structure complex strategic problems and propose logical solutions
Understand organisation principles and design, influences and differences in style and structure, comparative analysis, and the wider aspects of the organisation environment.
Become aware and develop an understanding of the patterns, principles and management of the international tourism, travel and hospitality industry.
Understand the process of strategy development
Understand the environmental impacts of tourism including the effects of tourism development on host societies and cultures and on the natural and manmade physical environment.
Demonstrate an understanding of the applications of accounting systems using information technology.
Learn the knowledge and skills required to write simple routines and programs.

1 ADTTH 101: Corporate Strategy    
Course Description  

The aim of this module is to structure complex strategic problems and propose logical solutions, apply the full range of techniques and concepts available to the contemporary corporate planner, analyse, assess and choose between strategic alternatives, understand the financial, human and organisational issues which affect the successful development and implementation of corporate strategies and plans, incorporate contemporary issues and developments affecting organisations into corporate plans and assess the impact and implications of international and global issues on the corporate strategic planning process.

Topics covered in this module are Introduction to corporate strategy, strategic analysis, strategic development, strategic direction, strategic evaluation, implementation and control, managing strategic change, Issues and developments in modern corporate strategy.

 

 

 

 

2 ADTTH 102: Management Organisation    
Course Description  

The aim of this module is to understand organisation principles and design, influences and differences in style and structure, comparative analysis and the wider aspects of the organisation environment, understand organisation theories and relevance and their interpretation within the operational context of organisations, understand the nature and purpose of organisation goals and how they are integrated into organisational activity, organisation processes and controls, understand the impetus for organisation change, change as an integral part of the organisation system, the process of planned change and to understand the organisation development and processes, the nature of organisational effectiveness and the criteria for evaluating success.

Topics covered in this module are the development of organisational theory, context of organisations, organisational directions, organisational structure and design, authority and decision-making, developing organisational effectiveness, organisational change and development, responsibility and stake holders.
3 ADTTH 103: Tourism and Environment    
Course Description  

The aim of this module is to understand the environmental impacts of tourism including the effects of tourism development on host societies and cultures, on the natural and manmade physical environment, understand methods of planning and managing tourism development and of counteracting negative impacts which will be examined with reference to case studies at regional, destination, site and individual company level.

Topics include Process of tourism development and associated impacts, variety of techniques available, both micro and macro, to counteract or minimise environmental damage, knowledge of tourism and conservation planning, in particular land use designations such as national parks, country parks and nature reserves, issues surrounding sustainable development and sustainable tourism principles and policies, distinguish between green tourism, ecotourism and community based tourism, techniques available to the tourism industry to minimise environmental impacts from their operations, assess international, national and local initiatives to improve the environmental performance of the tourism sector, key concepts in the planning of tourism facilites, role of public sector tourism and conservation agencies in the management of tourism resources,changes in destination societies and cultures resulted from tourism development.

 

 

 

 

4 ADTTH 104: International Travel, Tourism and Hospitality    
Course Description    

The aim of this module is to become aware and develop an understanding of the patterns, principles and management of the international tourism, travel and hospitality industry, be able to identify various components of the tourism industry, and be able to understand how these different components interact and relate to international patterns of tourism.

Topics include the patterns and flows of international tourism, identify the determinants of tourism demand, evaluate the relative importance of these determinants, international tourism at both the global and individual scale, different components of the international travel and tourism industry, potential for market segmentation based on the determinants of tourism demand, trace the development of tourism products, understanding of the importance of international hospitality as part of the tourism product, to explore the responsibilites and implications of providing a service based product, different impacts caused by the international tourism industry at the destination, negative impacts of tourism reduced in a range of countries and destinations, investigate the demand, supply and technological changes that could shape the future demand for international tourism.

 

 

 

 

5 ADTTH 105: Strategic Marketing    
Course Description    

The aim of this module is to examine the broad concepts of marketing strategy and planning, develop a deeper understanding of the processes of strategy development and marketing planning, understand the process of strategy development, examine and apply the core concepts and techniques for operationalising marketing strategy, particularly the elements of the marketing mix, develop a deeper understanding of the integration and application of the marketing mix variables and their impact on other functions within an enterprise and to apply and implement strategic marketing plans.

Topics include planning and strategy, marketing function, objectives and strategy, marketing and strategic choice, analysing the marketing environment, marketing information, auditing the marketing mix, consumer markets and consumer behaviour, marketing planning, marketing implementation and control, product management and development, branding and brand management, the promotional mix, direct marketing, distribution channel management, pricing policies and price settings.

 

 

 

 

6 DBIS 202: Quantitative Methods    
Course Description    

The aim of this module is to achieve an overall understanding of how and why statistics and mathematics are used in economic and business decisions, demonstrate the ability to collect, present, analyse and interpret quantitative data using standard statistical techniques.

Topics include methods of collecting data, sampling procedures, tabulating and graphing frequency distributions, statistical charts and diagrams, measures of location and dispersion, correlation, linear regression, time series analysis, index numbers, probability, frequency distributions, probability distributions, decision making, mathematical relationships to economic problems and breakeven analysis.

 

 

 

 

7 DBIS 203: Principles of Programming    
Course Description    

The aim of this module is to learn the knowledge and skills required to write simple routines and programs, be able to design and implement effective spreadsheet macros and small utilities, provide a secure foundation upon which more advanced concepts can be built, such as object-orientation and rapid prototyping and to create the practical framework to enable students to achieve useful programming language such as visual basic.

Topics include software development environment, compilers and interpreters, data types, statements, expressions and variables, control constructs, logical operators, arrays, built-in functions, user-defined functions and procedures

 

 

 

 

8 DBIS 204: Systems Analysis    
Course Description    

The aim of this module is to understand the tasks involved in designing a new information system to meet an organisation’s specific requirements, create the major models used in the analysis and design of information systems and to contribute towards the design of an organisation’s information system taking into consideration the technological and human aspects of the design.

Topics include background and theory of information systems, systems analysis and design framework, structured systems analysis and design, systems analysis tools and techniques and cross life cycle tasks.

 

 

 

 

9 DBIS 205: HR Management    
Course Description    

The aim of this module is to develop the student’s knowledge and understanding of individual differences, especially in such fields as learning, personality, motivation and attitudes, the changing nature of the psychological contract between organisations and their employees, each major dimension of human resource management in practice and techniques for effective communication in all work-related situations.

Topics include management and leadership, management accountability and responsibility, management and the changing organisation, management and motivation, organising and motivating, management control, managing and enhancing performance, human resource planning, recruitment and selection, employee development and communication.

 

 

 

 

  Mode of Delivery  
 

The programme is conducted in both full-time (6 months) and part-time (6 months) in a conducive and well-equipped classroom environment. The program gives students a full 390 hours combined instruction with case studies, real life examples throughout the program. Lessons are taught by MOE approved lecturers with study materials and courseware provided. An internal library is also available for referencing and research purposes.

  Method of Assessment & Award  
  The programme consists of 5 modules. Upon successful completion of the 5 modules (written exam papers), students will receive an Advance Diploma in Travel, Tourism and Hospitality, awarded by The Association of Business Executives (ABE), U.K.  
  Entry Requirements  
 
 

The Advance Diploma in Travel, Tourism and Hospitality is designed for individuals who are keen in learning about business concepts, accounting, quantitative methods and business communication skills. Following are the entry requirements for this programme:

  ABE Diploma in Travel, Tourism and Hospitality
  A degree, awarded by a recognised UK or overseas University
  Other recognised qualifications of approved overseas Institutions of Higher Education.

Graduates are eligible into admission to Final year degree in Travel, Tourism and Hospitality or equivalent qualifications, offered by 70 over universities from UK, USA, Australia etc.,
