  Aim  
  The aim of the programme is to provide students with not only an appreciation of the theoretical issues involved in the study of business, but with a range of practical skills which will enhance their value to potential employers.

The early stages of the programme provide students with the academic subjects, which underpin the remainder of the course.

1 CBA 101: Introduction to Business    
Course Description  

The aim of this module is to understand the nature and purpose of business activity, describe the structure of business, understand the business objectives of the various stakeholders, understand the environment within which business operates and the services available to assist, define and describe the functional activities within an organisation and understand the importance of their interdependence and apply business theory and concepts to practical business problems.

Topics covered in this module are Nature and Purpose of Business Activities, Structures of Business, Structures of Organisations, Organisations in their environments, growth and scale of business organisations, production function, marketing function, Finance & Accounting function and the human resource function.

 

 

 

 

2 CBA 102: Introduction to Quantitative Methods    
Course Description  

The aim of this module is to apply the rules of numeracy, carry out basic numerical calculations with or without a calculator, use elementary algebra, present and use mathematical data in graphical form, present and analyse simple business data, and use the laws of probability.

Topics covered in this module are Basic Numerical concepts, Algebra equations and formulae, Basic business application, simultaneous and quadratic equations, Introduction to graphs, Introduction to statistics and analysis, graphical representation of information, Measures of location & dispersion and probability.

3 CBA 103: Introduction to Accounting    
Course Description  

The aim of this module is to understand the basic principles of both financial accounting and management accounting and their applications, acquire the knowledge and techniques which will assist students in the performance of both financial and management accountancy functions in the industry and commerce, and to acquire the basic skills necessary for the pursuit of a recognised accountancy qualification.

Topics include Nature and scope of accounting, Double entry book keeping and ledger, cash and bank transactions, recording business transactions, trial balance, Trading account, profit and loss account, balance sheet, preparation, partnerships, Limited companies and cash flow statements.

 

 

 

 

4 CBA 104: Introduction to Business Communication    
Course Description  

The aim of this module is to equip students to use written english competently, accurately and appropriately in a variety of business communication scenarios, present a variety of data unambiguously in both written and graphical form, bearing in mind the fundamental importance of neatness, clarity and accuracy, understand the principles of business communication, and be able to use the most suitable medium in given situations, appreciate what are the most common barriers to successful communication and how they can be overcome, draft all the usual forms of business correspondence from given data and to understand and appreciate current developments in communications technology and the effect that they have on business.

Topics include Process of Communication, Principles of Effective Communication, Written Communication, Oral and Verbal Communication, Communicating with Customers, Technology and Communications, Visual Communications and Communications in Organisations.

 

 

 

 

  Mode of Delivery  
  The programme is conducted in both Full-time (6 months) and Part-time (6 months) in a conducive and well-equipped classroom environment. The program gives students a full 390 hours combined instruction with case studies, real life examples throughout the program. Lessons are taught by MOE approved lecturers with study materials and courseware provided. An internal library is also available for referencing and research purposes.
  Method of Assessment & Award  
  The programme consists of 4 modules. Upon successful completion of the 4 modules (written exam papers), students will receive Certificate in Business Administration awarded by The Association of Business Executives (ABE), U.K.  
  Entry Requirements  
 
  The Certificate in Business Administration is designed for individuals who are keen in learning about business concepts, accounting, quantitative methods and business communication skills. Following are the entry requirements for this programme:
 
  No formal qualifications are required but applicants must demonstrate competence in the english language.
  GCE O-Level students
  Students with 10 years of high school study
     
  Academic Progression Path & Career Opportunities  
  Graduates are eligible into admission to Diploma in Business Administration, offered by KWAP and ABE or equivalent offerings from other institutes.
